Functional Testing

Overview

Software functional testing is a testing service that systematically verifies the functional implementation of a software product against the requirement specification, design documents, contract terms and applicable standards. The focus includes whether functional modules are complete, whether business processes follow the design, whether data calculation and handling are accurate, whether interfaces work correctly, and whether user permissions and operation controls meet requirements.

Functional testing comprehensively assesses whether the software implements the expected functions and whether it supports users’ actual business scenarios, providing an objective basis for software acceptance, project delivery, system launch and quality evaluation.

The Value of Functional Testing

Functional testing is an important part of software quality assurance. It helps clients identify missing functions, abnormal processes, logic errors, data inconsistency, interface call failures and improper permission control before the software enters formal operation, reducing post-launch business risk and maintenance cost.

For government bodies, enterprises and institutions, research institutes and software project owners, functional testing can be used for software acceptance, government procurement project delivery, research project completion, results evaluation and quality confirmation before formal system launch, providing technical support for project management and quality supervision.

Testing Basis and Evaluation Dimensions

According to GB/T 25000.51-2016, Systems and software engineering — Systems and software Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE) — Part 51: Requirements and testing details for ready-to-use software products (RUSP), the functional suitability of software quality can be evaluated from the following aspects:

Functional Completeness

Verify whether the software implements all functions specified in the requirement specification, design documents or contract, and check for missing functions, omitted modules or incomplete processes.

Functional Correctness

Verify whether the software is accurate in business processing, data calculation, result output, interface responses and state transitions, ensuring that system results meet expectations.

Functional Appropriateness

Verify whether the software functions effectively support users in completing business tasks, whether the functional design matches actual usage scenarios, and whether it helps improve business processing efficiency.

Our Capabilities

With a professional software evaluation team and standardised testing processes, Star River Quality provides third-party software functional testing for government bodies, enterprises and institutions, research institutes and software development companies.

We prepare a test plan to the project’s needs, design test cases, carry out functional verification, business process testing, data validation, interface checks, permission testing and regression testing, and record, analyse and report the issues found.

After testing, Star River Quality can issue a CNAS software test report as required for software acceptance, project delivery, results evaluation, quality supervision and related management scenarios, providing clients with objective, standardised and credible evidence of software quality evaluation.
