Certification Overview

TDRA stands for the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, the successor of the well-known TRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority). It is the UAE regulator responsible for market access of telecom and radio equipment. TDRA certification is essentially a type approval process: it ensures that all wireless products meet UAE national standards and international standards (such as ETSI and FCC) in terms of RF performance, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and the safety of their connection to telecom networks. Products without the TDRA certification mark are prohibited from import, sale, or use, with violations facing product seizure, fines, and legal liability.

Product Scope

• Wireless communication terminals: mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, walkie-talkies, in-vehicle wireless devices
• Short-range wireless devices: Bluetooth headsets, Wi-Fi routers, remote controls, wireless doorbells
• IoT modules: 4G/5G communication modules, LoRa modules, NB-IoT terminals, RFID readers
• Wireless infrastructure: base station equipment, repeaters, satellite terminal equipment
• Special-purpose equipment: wireless microphones, drone remote controllers
• Others: any device with RF transmission capability

Timeline

The certificate is valid for 3 years and the standard project cycle is about 1 week; however, due to the current situation, actual project cycles currently run beyond 1 month.
