Certification Overview

NBTC certification is administered by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand. It is a mandatory approval regime enforced by the Thai government under the Telecommunications Business Act B.E. 2544 for radio communication equipment used or sold in Thailand. Wireless devices within the controlled scope must obtain NBTC approval before entering the Thai market.

Product Scope

Market access approval (required for import/sale, three routes: SDoC, Class A, Class B)

License-exempt, low-power short-range wireless devices are registered only, without a paper NBTC certificate: overseas laboratory RF/safety reports are sufficient for registration, with no re-testing in Thailand required.

SDoC — Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (low risk, license-exempt short range)

• Bluetooth devices: headsets, speakers, keyboards/mice, modules
• Wi-Fi equipment: routers, wireless network cards, Wi-Fi modules, access points (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz)
• RFID equipment: readers, electronic tags
• ZigBee devices: modules, smart home control devices
• SRD short-range devices: wireless remote controls, doorbells, walkie-talkies
• NFC devices: tags, reading terminals
• Wireless audio devices: wireless microphones, headsets
• Wireless charging equipment: charging pads and stands

Class A — Registered type approval (high risk, dedicated controlled RF equipment)

Mandatory certification. Testing must be performed by an NBTC-recognized local laboratory in Thailand; overseas reports cannot be converted directly. Covers high-power, interference-prone dedicated RF equipment.

• Radar of all types: automotive millimeter-wave radar, security radar, speed measurement radar
• Drone image transmitters and remote-control transmitters
• Professional high-power wireless microphones and stage/studio wireless microphone systems
• High-power industrial RFID readers
• Satellite communication terminals, satellite phones, satellite modems
• Dedicated short-range high-power transmitters and small broadcast transmitters
• VHF/UHF professional radios and non-public-network walkie-talkies

Class B — Approved type approval (medium risk, public cellular communication equipment)

Mandatory certification. CE/FCC/RED international reports can be converted with only supplementary local band-difference testing. Any finished device with 2/3/4/5G cellular connectivity falls under Class B regardless of Wi-Fi/NFC features.

• Cellular terminals: 2G/3G/4G/5G phones, tablets, smart watches (with SIM)
• Cellular IoT devices: chargers and charging cabinets with 4G/5G modules, 4G DTUs, CPEs, in-vehicle T-Boxes, shared devices (SIM-connected)
• Wireless broadband access: FWA fixed wireless access terminals, public-network walkie-talkies, trunked radio, mobile base stations, signal repeaters
• Traditional telecom terminals: PSTN telephones, xDSL modems, ONU/ONT optical terminals, VoIP gateways, IP phones
