CSIP-AUS Certification
CSIP-AUS is Australia’s unified communications and control standard for distributed energy resources (DER), based on IEEE 2030.5. The requirements are moving from technical guidance toward mandatory compliance. ANU’s nationwide CSIP-AUS testing and certification service began in October 2025.
CSIP-AUS v1.2 is expected to become a mandatory Australian standard through TS 5573:2025 from July 2026. Implementation dates vary by state. For example, Western Australia is adopting TS 5573:2025 from 1 May 2026, while Victoria and Queensland have moved their deadline to 1 November 2026. New South Wales is associated with the deployment of the Emergency Backstop mechanism in the latter part of 2026.
In the future, DER equipment within the applicable scope will generally need to demonstrate that it can connect, communicate and respond to control commands in accordance with CSIP-AUS before entering the Australian market.
CSIP-AUS Services
Our development services include:
- Custom CSIP-AUS client software development
Our testing services include:
- Support for CSIP-AUS self-testing
- Support for witness testing
Custom CSIP-AUS Client Software Development
We have extensive software development experience and technical expertise. To help clients complete CSIP-AUS certification more efficiently, we provide professional custom client software development services designed around CSIP-AUS requirements.
We can develop three types of client implementations according to your product architecture. We also provide end-to-end support for addressing client-related issues identified throughout the CSIP-AUS testing process.
- Customise the Client implementation for integration into the device, gateway or cloud platform according to the customer’s product architecture
- Develop communications logic related to CSIP-AUS and IEEE 2030.5
- Implement registration, discovery, certificate management, telemetry, control response and other functions
- Adapt the implementation to the required capability categories, including A / G / L / C / S / M
- Support integration with the customer’s existing device protocols, gateway platforms or cloud systems
Self-Testing Support
Before formal certification or witness testing, we can help enterprises complete CSIP-AUS self-testing.
Self-testing mainly covers the requirements related to Chapter 13 of SA TS 5573:2025, including:
- Verification of basic CSIP-AUS protocol stack functions
- Checks of DER device information, capability information and status reporting
- Checks of default control parameters and fault recovery behaviour
- Verification of TLS communications, certificate configuration and secure connections
- XML Schema and data-structure consistency checks
- Reproduction and diagnosis of test issues, with remediation recommendations
Self-testing helps clients understand the current product gaps before entering the formal testing process, reducing the cost of repeated submissions and rework.
Witness Testing Support
For ANU remote witness testing, we can provide testing assistance, issue analysis and remediation tracking support.
Witness testing mainly covers the requirements related to Chapter 14 of SA TS 5573:2025. Our support may include:
- Organising certification test requirements and test materials
- Checking the device under test, firmware version and test environment
- Assisting with the configuration of the network, certificates, servers and client connections
- Supporting the execution of CSIP-AUS test items
- Organising test records and deliverables
Our goal is to help clients respond to issues more efficiently during witness testing and ensure that the device, client software and test environment remain verifiable, traceable and reproducible.
Supporting Australian Market Access
Australia is promoting the use of CSIP-AUS to enable secure interconnection and dynamic control of DER equipment with the electricity grid. For inverter manufacturers, gateway manufacturers, energy management system providers, aggregators and client software suppliers, CSIP-AUS testing is both a protocol conformance verification activity and an important preparation step for entering the Australian market and supporting grid connection.
We focus on more than whether a test is passed. We also assess whether the product can maintain stable connections, respond correctly, recover from faults, communicate securely and remain maintainable in real-world grid communication scenarios.
Through CSIP-AUS self-testing and witness testing support, we help clients identify issues before formal certification, product launch and overseas delivery, enabling their products to meet the requirements of Australian DER communications and grid connection scenarios more reliably.
