Protocol Conformance

Testing Overview

The IPv6 Ready Logo test and certification programme was initiated by the IPv6 Forum as an international testing and certification scheme. Its goal is to strengthen the confidence of operators and users in deploying and using IPv6 products by verifying the deployability and applicability of IPv6 products. The main work of the certification includes verifying IPv6 protocol conformance and interoperability, providing impartial test specifications, maintaining the operation of the IPv6 certification system, and awarding the IPv6 Ready Logo to devices that meet the test standards.

The IPv6 Ready Logo is recognised worldwide and is the mark of a product’s IPv6 support. It helps companies improve product competitiveness, gives equipment buyers a basis for assessing IPv6 support, and builds further confidence in commercial IPv6 deployment.

Applicable Product Scope

Network equipment such as routers and switches; terminal equipment such as access terminals, gateways and set-top boxes; security equipment such as firewalls; and embedded IPv6 protocol stacks, operating systems and application systems that support IPv6 access.

Testing Content

IPv6 Ready Logo certification requires the product to pass both conformance testing and interoperability testing. The test specifications are developed from the relevant IETF RFC standards, the test cases cover the Must and Should parts of those RFCs, and all test items must be passed 100%. Testing covers protocol implementation requirements such as basic forwarding behaviour, neighbour discovery, address autoconfiguration, ICMPv6, path MTU discovery, address acquisition and security capabilities, and verifies consistent behaviour between implementation and specification, and between implementations.

Applicable Standards

IPv6 Ready Logo standards:

  • Core Protocol: RFC 8200, RFC 8201, RFC 2474, RFC 4191, RFC 4291, RFC 4443, RFC 4861, RFC 4862, RFC 5095, RFC 3168, RFC 6980, RFC 7217, RFC 8106
  • CE-Router: RFC 8200, RFC 8201, RFC 2827, RFC 4294, RFC 4291, RFC 4443, RFC 4861, RFC 4862, RFC 3315, RFC 3484, RFC 5942, RFC 6204, RFC 6106, RFC 3646, RFC 3736, RFC 3633, RFC 4191, RFC 7083, RFC 7084
  • IPsecv6: RFC 2406, RFC 2410, RFC 2451, RFC 3602, RFC 3566, RFC 3686, RFC 4309, RFC 4106, RFC 4543
  • DHCPv6: RFC 3315, RFC 3633, RFC 3646, RFC 3736, RFC 4862, RFC 4443
  • SNMPv6: RFC 2578, RFC 2579, RFC 2580, RFC 3411, RFC 3412, RFC 3413, RFC 3414, RFC 3416, RFC 3418

Test Duration and Sample Requirements

The test duration depends on the product form, the scope of the protocol stack implementation and the number of test items; formal certification scheduling follows the arrangements of the certification system. Samples are production-state devices with complete IPv6 functionality, with the quantity and interface forms confirmed after acceptance according to the product form. It is recommended to complete a basic IPv6 function self-check before submitting samples, to shorten the testing and remediation cycle.

Our Capabilities

The laboratory has an IPv6 protocol conformance and interoperability test environment covering the Core Protocol, CE-Router, IPsec, DHCPv6 and SNMPv6 test sets of IPv6 Ready Logo certification. We support the full loop from pretesting and formal testing to issue remediation and retesting, and help companies complete the certification application and sample preparation.
