Algeria Updates Its Type Approval Framework for Electronic Communication Equipment

On February 15, 2026, Algeria’s Official Gazette (No. 13) formally published Executive Decree No. 26-97, approved by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications on January 31, 2026, comprehensively revising the approval procedures for the homologation of electronic communication equipment. The decree took effect on February 22, 2026.

01–Regulators

  • National Frequency Agency (ANF) :

Responsible for the approval of radio installations and radio equipment not used for public networks.

  • Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (ARPCE) : responsible for the approval of terminal equipment and radio installations intended to be connected to publicly open networks.

For equipment involving both radio and public open networks, approval is handled uniformly by ARPCE.

02–Main changes under the new decree

1. Certificate validity is extended from 3 to 5 years. Certificates still within their validity remain valid until their original expiry date.

2. All type approval applications must be submitted online through the dedicated electronic platform.

3.

All applications: a working prototype must be delivered to the designated institution within 5 working days of submission; late applications may be rejected.

Imported equipment: an application receipt may be used to request sampling from customs; once approved, samples must still be submitted within 5 working days.

4.

Regular approvals: normally completed within no more than 2 months from the date of a complete application or sample submission.

Large equipment: where the equipment cannot be moved, on-site testing will be carried out within 10 working days of application submission.

5. Before being placed on the Algerian market, the compliance label must be affixed in the style specified by the decree.

6. Information on certified equipment will be published publicly on the ANF or ARPCE websites.

03–Technical standards and compliance requirements

The new decree requires all electronic communication equipment to conform to the recognized standards published on the websites of ANF or ARPCE.

Equipment with cellular network access capability must provide a TAC (Type Allocation Code) certificate issued by GSMA.

The new decree makes exemption arrangements for temporarily imported equipment.
