First, understand: what exactly does SUBTEL certification require?
Core policy:Resolution No. 737
This resolution by Chile’s telecom authority requires that from February 21, 2026, packaging of applicable equipment must carry a QR code linking to the digital compliance documentation, achieving “one-scan compliance verification” through a “dedicated webpage + traceable QR code” in place of traditional paper certification.
(Important reminder: products that do not meet the requirements cannot be legally sold in Chile and also face customs clearance blocks and product recall risk. This is a mandatory entry threshold.)
Which products require certification?
- Short-range devices: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RFID, and ZigBee equipment, wireless keyboards and mice, IoT sensors (transmission range within 100 meters);
- Radio equipment: small walkie-talkies, consumer transmitters, wireless communication modules. (For example, Bluetooth speakers, smart home controllers, industrial sensors, walkie-talkies, etc. — all require certification to enter the Chilean market.)
Note: older models already approved by SUBTEL also need their QR codes updated; devices requiring type approval, such as medical equipment, must satisfy both the legacy process and the new QR code requirements.
After certification, what are the QR code and webpage for?
A dedicated Spanish-language webpage is generated, showing product information, test summaries, and the declaration of conformity for all parties to consult; the QR code is bound to the webpage and affixed in a prominent place on the packaging, making regulatory checks easy and reassuring consumers.
